FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is window film?
  • Our 3M window film is a thin, multi-layered material that works to block UV light, glare & increase privacy.
Q: What is the legal tint law in Washington State?
Legal tinting levels are measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage.
See below for limits:
  • Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
  • Front Side Windows: Must allow at least 24% of light in.
  • Back Side Windows: Must allow at least 24% of light in.
  • Rear Window: Must allow at least 24% of light in.
Q: How reflective can the tint be in Washington?
  • Front Side Windows: Cannot be more than 35% reflective.
  • Back Side Windows: Cannot be more than 35% reflective.
Q: Can I get pulled over for tinted windows?
  • The police may use tinted windows as a reason to pull you over.  That is why we recommend not tinting any darker than the legal window tint.
Q: What are the benefits of window film?
  • Benefits include ease on the eyes, UV protection, increased safety, reduced glare & energy savings- as well as privacy.  For more detailed reasons to tint your home & car windows, visit our blog.
Q: How should I clean my windows after they are tinted?

Q: How long does it take for my car window tint job?
  • Time of service depends on the vehicle.  A typical job lasts around 2 hours with larger trucks taking a bit longer.
Q: Does blocking UV rays help preserve & prevent deterioration?
  • Yes, the sunlight that brightens a room’s interior can be detrimental to fabrics, furnishings, pieces of are and general interiors. UV rays are the main cause of both fading and deterioration. Our window film blocks up to 99% of the damaging sun rays that can fade richly colored furniture and interior. Window film to block nearly 100% of UV rays will increase the life of your personal property for years.
Q: If window film is damaged, can it be fixed?
  • Film that has been damaged cannot be repaired, but the damaged piece of film can be replaced & retinted.
Q: Do I need to wait until I roll my car windows down after getting a tint job?
  • It is recommended that you leave your vehicle windows rolled up for at least a day after our 3M window film has been installed.
Q: Does my older window film need to be removed before my tinted film can be installed?
  • We always remove the old film first, if your vehicle has aftermarket film on when you bring your car in.
Q: How do tinted windows lower energy costs?
  • In the hot summer months, our 3M window film reflects the UV rays- this reduces the heat gain & lowers the air conditioning cost needed for your car, home or business.  In winter months, window film retains heat up to 15%, reducing heating costs. You’ll start to see quite the return on investment with a lowered energy bill!
Q: Will tinting my windows affect my rear defroster?
  • No, window film does not have any effect on your defrosting system.
